A ski-ing trip ended in disaster for a party of Belgian holidaymakers when the tour bus taking them home came off a motorway and overturned.

Seven people were seriously injured and two are in a critical condition after the coach flattened a barrier and dropped down an embankment.

The accident happened in southern Germany between Wuerzburg and Aschaffenburg. The 42-strong group had been heading back to Belgium from the mountains of northern Italy.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash but police say that wintry weather conditions don’t appear to be responsible.
