Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in India for trade talks. He was met at the airport by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov had flown in earlier in the week together with a large delegation to prepare the way for the sealing of lucrative new contracts for nuclear reactors and arms.
Russia and India have had close ties for many years and two Russian reactors are already under construction in India.
India is also the biggest buyer of Russian arms after China.
Up to ten trade agreements on subjects from nuclear power to space are expected to be signed during Mr. Putin’s visit.
