At least 75 people have reportedly been killed and up to 170 others wounded by a double car bombing in the Iraqi capital. The attack took place in the Bab al-Sharji area near a market for second-hand goods. Police say the devices went off almost simultaneously. It’s the bloodiest attack since seventy people were killed in a double bombing outside a Baghdad university six days ago.
The blasts come after a particularly bad weekend for U.S. forces in Iraq. A helicopter crash, clashes with militants and roadside bombs claimed the lives of 27 U.S servicemen. All but two were killed on Saturday, the third deadliest day for U.S. troops since the war started in March 2003.
