The end of the world is coming sooner than expected, according to a panel of influential scientists. The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists has added climate change to the prospect of nuclear armageddon as the biggest threats facing mankind. As a result, the group, which includes Nobel Prize winning physicist Stephen Hawking, has speeded up time by two minutes on its so-called “Doomsday Clock.” The symbolic timepiece now stands at five minutes to midnight.

Head of the group, Kennette Benedict, says the world is facing widespread destruction. “When we think about what technologies besides nuclear weapons could produce such devastation to the planet, we quickly came to carbon-emitting technologies,” said Benedict, executive director of the Chicago-based BAS.
