Democrat Obama´s first steps to White House challenge

The race for the White House in 2008 is hotting up with one of the Democrats’ most charismatic characters throwing his hat into the ring. US Senator Barack Obama said on his website he had formed an exploratory committee, to prepare the campaign for his party’s nomination.

He said he would make a definite announcement in February. “I certainly did not expect to find myself in this position a year ago, but as I have spoken to many of you in my travels across the states in these past months, as I have read your emails and read your letters, I have been struck by how hungry we all are for a different kind of politics,” Obama said on his website.

Obama impressed with a rousing speech at the 2004 Democratic convention. But there are questions about the first term Senator´s experience and whether the US is ready for a black President. Obama’s candidacy would give Hilary Clinton a run for her money.

The New York Senator has not said whether she will run but is widely expected to. Whatever happens, the road to the White House in 2008 has taken an interesting turn.
