The EU foreign policy chief says the UN envoy for Kosovo is likely to present in early February his decision on whether the province should become independent from Serbia. The comments from Javier Solana come after talks with the president of Kosovo Fatmir Sejdiu.
Serbia has been calling for a postponement of the announcement until after a new government has been formed after elections on January 21. That process could take months. Solana has called for calm in Kosovo, where the large Albanian majority wants independence from Serbia. The province has been administered by the UN since 1999.
