Ecuador’s President-elect, Rafael Correa, has been taking part in a traditional indigenous ceremony to mark his inauguration. The investiture in the southern town of Zumbahua, in front of some 40,000 guests and supporters, comes ahead of Monday’s official event.

According to indigenous beliefs, the ceremony is a chance for natives to show their respect, principles and rituals approved by the Constitution as “not to steal, not to lie and not to be lazy.” On stage, Correa was joined in song by Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez and Bolivia’s President Evo Morales.
