Austrian parties seal leadership pact

Austria’s main parties have agreed on a ruling coalition. The deal between the centre-left and conservatives comes three months after a closely fought general election. Social Democratic leader, Alfred Gusenbauer, will become chancellor in the so-called “grand coalition”. He replaces Wolfgang Schuessel who narrowly lost the election after more than six years in power in alliance with a far-right party.
