Israel has secret plans to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons, according to Britain’s Sunday Times newspaper. Citing several Israeli military sources, the newspaper says Israel only plans to target Iran if a conventional attack is ruled out and if the United States declines to intervene.
In Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said the report would make clear to the world that Israel is the main threat to peace in the region. Last month the U.N. Security Council voted unanimously to impose sanctions on Iran to try to stop uranium enrichment that Western powers fear Iran could use to make atomic bombs. But Tehran insists its plans are peaceful and says it will continue its enrichment programme.
