Democrats take power in US Congress

world news

| |

The US Congress has reconvened in Washington DC, with Democrats in control of both chambers – the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is the first time they have been at the helm of Congress for 12 years. The Democrats’ first challenge in the House is to pass a list of legislation in its first 100 hours, on issues ranging from the minimum wage to stem cell research and dealing with corruption on Capitol Hill.

The 100-hour agenda was drawn up by the Democrats’ new champion, the first female speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.
