Just hours after the announcement of Saddam Hussein’s execution, more than 30 people were killed in a bomb blast in Kufa, one of the holiest Shi’ite cities in Iraq. The device went off in a market place busy with people shopping ahead of the week-long Eid al-Adha holiday. Dozens of people were wounded. Police arrested a man suspected of planting the bomb – but it is being reported he was killed by an angry mob before reaching the police station.
