Britain's Prince William becomes an officer

Britain’s Prince William has become a commissioned officer in the Army, after his passing- out parade at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy. The future king paraded in front of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Like his younger brother Harry, he will become a second lieutenant in the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals. He will train to become a troop commander in an armoured reconnaissance unit.

All eyes were on William’s girlfriend, Kate Middleton, who made her first appearance at such a high-profile event attended by senior royals. It prompted one bookmakers’ firm to shorten odds on the likelihood of a future royal engagement. The ceremony comes a day after a police report concluded the car crash that killed Princess Diana, was an accident. Conspiracy theorists have accused everyone from Prince Charles to British intelligence operatives of plotting the incident.

With his brother, William asked for speculation surrounding his mother’s death to stop. After a year in the army, Prince William will also spend time in the Royal Air Force and Navy. He has said he wants to fight alongside his men, but as second in line to the throne, he is unlikely to see active service.
