Hamas judge shot dead in Gaza

world news

It is a killing sure to stoke yet more internal unrest among Palestinians. A judge from the governing Hamas movement has been shot dead in Gaza. Bassam al-Fara was killed in Khan Younis while on his way to work. It comes amid spiralling tensions between Hamas and the rival Fatah faction of President Mahmoud Abbas, in the wake of failed attempts to form a national unity government. On Monday, three young sons of one of Abbas’s top intelligence agents were killed. As security forces deploy to try to calm the situation, there is also mounting tension elsewhere. In violation of a ceasefire, several rockets have been fired from Gaza at Israel.
