The three young children of a Palestinian intelligence official loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas have been shot dead in Gaza. Gunmen opened fire on the car that was taking the boys, aged between six and nine, to school.
The shooting came a day after gunmen opened fire on the convoy of Interior Minister Saeed Seyam in Gaza. The minister, a senior Hamas leader, was unharmed. The boys killed in Monday’s shooting were the children of Colonel Baha Balousha. An adult bystander is also reported to have died in the attack, and two other children were wounded.
The street is said to have been packed with school children when the gunmen opened fire. The dead boys’ father has taken part in a funeral march, heavily guarded by gunmen.
Angry mourners firing weapons are later reported to have stormed into the compound of parliament.
