The death toll in the Philippines continues to rise in the wake of mudslides brought on by a devastating typhoon. According to the Red Cross, around 800 people are dead or missing. That figure could rise to over 1,000. Hope is fading of finding any more survivors. In some cases, entire families have been buried under tonnes of mud.

The worst hit areas were around Mount Mayon in the central part of the Philippines. Typhoon Durian was the fourth to hit the country in three months. Forecasters predict another before the year is out.
