Several students, a teacher and a janitor have been wounded, one seriously, after a teenager with a gun stormed a German school. Local media say the 18-year-old was a former student of the secondary school in the northwestern town of Emsdetten. Police say the attacker was found dead after apparently killing himself, and an explosive device was later found attached to his body.
“He was very much a loner,” said one teacher. “He was difficult to get through to, always dressed in black. Last month on a website he said the school would be the scene of an attack.” Among those in hospital are some students and police affected by smoke bombs. The drama comes four and a half years after Germany’s worst school shooting, when a gunman killed 17 people, including himself, in the eastern city of Erfurt.
