A politically bruised President Bush is making his first world trip since his party’s defeat in mid-term elections. The US leader has flown into Singapore at the start of a three-nation trip to Asia. North Korea was high on his agenda: “It is vital that the nations of this region send a message to North Korea, that the proliferation of nuclear technology to hostile regimes or terrorist networks will not be tolerated,” he told an audience in Singapore.
“And after North Korea’s recent nuclear tests, the UN Security Council passed a unanimous resolution making it clear that the regime’s pursuit of nuclear weapons is unacceptable.”
President Bush is also due to visit Indonesia and Vietnam for an Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. Terrorism and trade liberalisation are other subjects high on his agenda.
