Blair talks to US Iraq Study Group

A day after urging Iran and Syria to join the “push for peace”, Britain’s Prime Minister Tony Blair has been giving evidence to the US policy inquiry on Iraq. There is no word on what he told the Iraq Study Group in their private session, but it is thought he repeated his view that engaging Iran and Syria is vital to advancing the Middle East peace process.

Some experts say recent changes in George Bush’s advice staff may make it easier for Blair to get his message across to the Americans. Downing Street says Blair believes Syria and Iran could be key to reducing bloodshed in Iraq and that timing is crucial given the power shift in the US after last week’s mid-term elections.
