There has been a series of deadly bombings in Baghdad. At least two devices targeting a police patrol exploded within minutes of each other early this morning killing four Iraqis along a highway east of the capital. It was followed by another suicide attack in the west of the city. At least 35 people have been killed with more than 40 others injured.

Interior Ministry sources say they died after a bomber wearing an explosive-laden vest walked into a police recruiting centre. Sunni Arab insurgents frequently attack recruiting centres for Iraq’s fledgling security forces, which are a key part of Washington’s plan for an eventual withdrawal of its troops.
