House to get first female speaker


If the Democrats do manage to take control of the House, then Nancy Pelosi is set to become its first female speaker. She is expected to be easily re-elected in San Francisco. As she appeared before party faithful on Tuesday night, her smiles reflected the Democrat mood as media began making predictions based on provisional results.

Among them, is that Bill Nelson has held Florida for the Senate. He was looking vulnerable until Katherine Harris stepped up as his Republican opponent. She was the state’s election chief in the recount debacle following the 2000 Presidential election.
