The package delivery firm Federal Express has said it has cancelled its order for ten Airbus A380 superjumbos due to delivery delays. Instead it plans to buy 15 Boeing 777s converted to carry cargo and it has taken an option with the US company for fifteen more. Fed Ex said it could not wait as it “needs appropriate aircraft to meet demand.”
The board of Airbus’ parent, EADS has been meeting under Louis Gallois, who has assumed the day-to-day running of the European plane maker. The board members postponed a decision on announcing the launch of the proposed A 350, the mid-size wide bodied aircraft that is intended to compete against Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner.
