The life of a 26-year old Frenchwoman hangs in the balance after a gang set fire to a bus in Marseille, sparking fears that there could be more violence to come in France. A group of hooded youths carried out the attack using flammable liquid on Saturday evening. The victim is in hospital with burns covering 60 percent of her body.
It’s the seventh bus to be burnt out this week. The other six were in the Paris region. The mounting number of incidents near big cities comes exactly one year after France’s riots that lasted for three weeks. Although these latest events are not on the same scale, authorities remain extremely concerned.
Last year’s trouble was triggered by the fatal electrocution of two teenagers in the Paris suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois. They were hiding from police when they died. A peaceful march was held in the suburb on Friday in remembrance of the two teenagers.
