In a controversial vote the French parliament has passed a bill making it a crime to deny Armenians suffered genocide at the hands of Ottoman Turks. The vote was approved by 106 parliamentarians, with 19 against it. The bill must still be approved by the Senate and President to become law. It is a move that could seriously damage relations between Ankara and Paris. Armenia says some 1.5m of its people were killed in a systematic massacre in 1915, a claim strongly denied by Turkey.
