A murder investigation is underway in Russia to find out who killed a Moscow-based branch manager working for the country’s second largest bank. Alexander Plokhin was shot three times in the head late last night. There is heightened speculation that this was a contract killing.

Investigators have pieced together the chain of events and believe that Plokhin was ambushed as he exited the lift of his apartment building. The murder has sent shudders through Russia’s financial districts. Last month the country’s deputy central bank chief was murdered in a gangland-style assassination.
