The anti-immigration party Vlams Belang, looks set to make big strides in local elections in Belgium on Sunday. The party, led by Philip de Winter, is expected to increase its already large share of the vote and could take control of some towns or districts for the first time. Opinion polls forecast that it will get the backing 34 to 39 percent of voters in Antwerp, its main stronghold. The party wants to stop immigration and urges newcomers to Flanders to learn Dutch.
