Gunman claims four lives in US Amish siege


At least four little girls have been killed and seven others injured in a shooting at an Amish school in the United States. The gunman, a 32 year old father of three, entered the one-room school in the village of Paradise in Pennsylvania. He ordered the boys to leave before tying up the girls and shooting them in the head. The man, identified as milk delivery driver Charles Carl Roberts, shot himself before police could enter the building. Its understood he was not a member of the sect.

The Amish are the Anabaptist Christian descendants of German settlers who reject many types of modern technology. Their aim is to lead lives true to scripture. The latest incident comes at the end of a week of gun-related violence in US schools. A 16 year old girl died during a siege in a school in Colorado, while a head teacher died in Wisconsin after confronting a student armed with a gun.
