Tens of thousands of Lebanese Christians have gathered, two days after a rally by rival Muslim group Hizbollah. On Friday, Hizbollah Chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, called the 34-day war with Israel a ‘divine victory’ for Lebanon. But the head of a political party forming part of the country’s leading coalition disagreed.
Samir Geagea of the Lebanese Forces Party said, “We do not feel the victory because most of the Lebanese do not feel it. We feel that a big disaster took place and made our present and future go with the wind.” Lebanon is sharply divided over the war, that killed hundreds of Lebanese. Hizbollah´s fight with Israel sent their support soaring among Shiites. But Christians and Sunni Muslims oppose Hizbollah and blame it for starting the war.
