A 19-yea-old woman student has been shot dead and 20 people injured during a shooting rampage inside a college in Montreal.Panic flared when a lone gunman dressed in black arrived at Dawson College in the city centre and began firing indiscriminately. The city’s police chief told reporters the attacker was also dead, after having been shot by police marksmen. Officials have said they have no clues as to the motive behind the attack, but there seems to have been no racist or terrorist connotations.
13 people have been taken to hospital. Three are in a critical condition, the other ten have less serious injuries. Dawson College has around 10,000 pupils with ages ranging from 16 to 19. The college was cordoned off as police wearing bullet-proof vests carried out a full search of the complex.
Earlier, it was suggested two gunmen may have been involved, but police have now said there was only one attacker. The shooting, the third so far in an educational establishment in the city, is likely to re-open the debate over the control of firearms in Canada.
