Film director Stephen Frears and actress Helen Mirren have made a big splash at the Venice Film Festival. Praised by critics as an early contender for the top prize, Frears’ movie The Queen was one of the first batches to be shown. The movie examines how Britain’s Elizabeth II dealt with the death of Princess Diana, and how she related to newly-elected Prime Minister Tony Blair. “It was a very frightening project,” Mirren told reporters. “It’s a no-win situation playing someone who’s alive, because, as good as you are, you’ll never be a tenth as good as they are, so you can’t really win.”
