British police have arrested 14 men in what they say is a major new crackdown on suspected terrorist activities. The men were detained in south and east London overnight – twelve of them were arrested at one restaurant. Police gave no details about what the men were suspected of doing but said the raids were not linked to the arrests of more than 20 people last month over an alleged plot by British Muslims to blow-up US bound passenger planes.
It is claimed the arrests follow many months of surveillance and investigation in a joint operation involving the police and security services. Two other people were detained this morning in an unconnected operation in Manchester.
