An airplane has crashed in the United States killing 49 people on board and leaving just one survivor. The Comair commuter jet went down shortly after take-off from Lexington, Kentucky, on its way to Atlanta. It crashed in woods just two kilometres from the Blue Grass airport.
The survivor is in a critical condition in hospital. Authorities say there is no evidence the incident was terrorism related. Don Bornhorst is president of Comair, a subsidiary of Delta Airlines. He said the reaction to the loss of life was one of shock: ‘‘With the emotion that comes with that, also comes a crystalline commitment to understand everything that is going on to make sure these things are understood, certainly avoided in the future.” There was light rain at the time of the accident but conditions were not exceptional and investigators will focus on possible technical causes.
