Several EU interior ministers have been meeting in London to assess the threat to European security after British authorities discovered an alleged plot to blow up planes using liquid explosives hidden in hand baggage. Britain’s John Reid briefed his counterparts about what officials called “the emerging threat and current operation.” Twenty four people were arrested and are being questioned.
Air travellers suffered massive delays from extra security checks. The UK authorities are reportedly investigating possible links between some of those who were arrested and individuals in mainland Europe. The ministers discussed what changes may need to be made to counter-terrorism measures in the region.
