At least eight people have been killed and around 28 more wounded in an explosion at a small flea market in east Baghdad. An elderly man and two children were said to be among the dead. Four of those hurt in the bombing were policemen. It comes a week after US and Iraqi forces launched their latest security clampdown in the Iraqi capital. They are attempting to stem the rising tide of sectarian violence, which top US officers have warned could lead to full-scale civil war. There are now around 50,000 US and Iraqi forces conducting raids and searches to clear out militant strongholds in the most dangerous neighbourhoods.
