Castro says he is better, but still at risk

Cuba has been given its first glimpse of Fidel Castro since he ceded power to his younger brother two weeks ago, after stomach surgery. Marking his 80th birthday today, a newspaper published photographs of the veteran leader who said he is “considerably” better but still at risk.

A special birthday concert has been held in the capital, where thousands gathered to listen to a five-hour line-up of the island’s top musical talent.
