A Hizbollah rocket has killed an Arab woman and her three year old son in the village of Deir al-Assad in northern Israel according to the emergency services. The rocket also seriously injured at least one other person. Israeli television said the rocket landed in the garden of the woman’s house as she and her son were going out to pick fruit. Hizbollah has fired around 3,500 rockets across the border in the last month.
On Wednesday the group’s leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, warned Arabs living in the largest city in northern Israel, Haifa, to leave. Many Arabs heeded the warning. One man who was driving his family away in a pick-up truck loaded with their possessions said: “We are leaving Haifa, we are going to Um el Fahm. What can we do?” As they left more rockets landed in northern Israel; the authorities say more than 100 were fired on Thursday.
