No let-up in cross-border attacks

It has been another day of fierce exchanges over the Israeli-Lebanese border. Hizbollah says it has fired six Katyusha rockets and launched longer-range missiles deeper into Israel than ever before.

Across the frontier, a woman and six children have been killed after an Israeli air strike on a house in the village of Nmeiriya in southern Lebanon. Israel has also continued to fire heavy artillery at several other towns such as Maroun al Ras.

However a military source says Israeli troops have now pulled out of the Hizbollah stronghold of Bint Jbeil. Israel’s bombardment of Lebanon in its war with Hizbollah is now thought to have claimed at least 469 mostly civilian lives.

Fifty-one Israelis have been killed by Hizbollah attacks.
