Israel hits Beirut with heavy bombardments

Israeli has continued its heavy offensive on the Lebanese capital on the eve of Rome crisis summit. There’ve been a series of explosions in Beirut as warplanes again targeted Hizbollah’s stronghold. The latest attack came after the militant group launched a fresh barrage of rockets into Israel’s third largest city Haifa. Israel now says it will keep control over a so-called “security zone” in southern Lebanon until an international force can be deployed. Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice ended her regional tour by expressing concern over the burgeoning humanitarian crisis.
