A fresh barrage of Katyusha rockets has rained down on northern Israel, killing two and injuring dozens more. One victim died when an apartment block was hit on Sunday morning in the city of Haifa. Later on, five more were wounded after more rockets fell in a residential area. French Foreign Minister Phillippe Douste-Blazy was in Haifa to promote diplomacy but, at one point, was forced to take cover in an air-raid warning.
Other northern Israeli towns have also been struck by rockets fired by Hizbollah fighters in southern Lebanon. Houses in Kiryat Shmona and Tiberias were damaged, although no-one was seriously injured. Sunday’s second Israeli fatality occurred when a rocket killed a man in his car in Haifa. The number of Israeli civilians killed in Hizbollah rocket attacks now stands at 17.
