Another day of carnage in Iraq.

At least 64 people have been killed and around 180 more injured as bombs tear through 2 Iraqi cities. In the Sadr City district of Baghdad, a suicide car bomber struck at a busy market early this morning. Two hours later, another blast in the city brought today’s death toll in Baghdad to 42.

Then in Kirkuk, north of the capital, another car bomb in front of a court house claimed another 22 lives. That figure is expected to rise, given the intensity of the blast. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al Maliki will meet President Bush in Washington on Tuesday. With the world’s eyes currently diverted to events in Lebanon, it will be a reminder to the US of the problems it still faces in Iraq.
