Israel pounds Beirut airport again

Israeli aircraft have fired two rockets into a runway at Beirut’s international airport. The facility has been closed since Israeli warplanes first bombed its runways on Thursday morning, but four planes of the national carrier Middle East Airlines took off empty for the safety of Amman airport shortly before today’s raid.

At least 60 civilians in Lebanon have been killed since Israel began its air raids in reprisal for the capture of two soldiers by the Shi’ite militant group Hizbollah on Wednesday.
