The next prime minister of Poland looks likely to be the twin brother of the country’s president. Jaroslaw Kaczynski is set to take the top job in the ruling coalition after a shock resignation. Jaroslaw’s brother is President Lech Kaczynski. If the partnership is confirmed by parliament next week, they will be the world’s only twins to hold the two top posts in any country.
Tension within the conservative Law and Justice party is said to have led to the resignation of Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz. It is reported that he had become increasingly at odds with the Kaczynski twins over policy and senior state appointments.
Critics are worried about the concentration of power in the hands of the twins who are sceptical of Europe.
