“A government for all Mexicans” is the promise from president-elect Felipe Calderon, after his razor-thin win was confirmed in a recount. “To those who voted for me I sincerely and affectionately appreciate your support and your vote, and to those who didn’t vote for me, I also appreciate your vote because those votes make democracy possible,” he said.

Calderon finally scraped in with 38.9% of the poll; in terms of votes just a few thousand more than Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. He seems likely to contest such a close result in the Electoral Commission, and claimed electoral “irregularities”. Lopez Obrador has also called for a rally in Mexico City’s central square for tomorrow.
