Over 30 dead in Spanish metro crash

At least 34 people have been killed in an accident on the underground metro system of the Spanish city of Valencia.

More than a dozen others were seriously injured when two train carriages came off the tracks and overturned, apparently after a wheel broke on a curve.

Excess speed is being examined as another possible cause of the disaster in Spain’s third largest city, which is due to welcome Pope Benedict in a few days time.
