world news

| |

For the first time in the World Cup, the German team has played in Berlin and fans turned up in their hundreds of thousands to enjoy goal after goal after goal. The final result against Ecuador was three-nil, meaning the host nation finishes top of its group. For those on the so-called Fan Mile, however, the result is not the only reason to celebrate.

“It is really fantastic that the different nations are partying together. That is the best thing,” said one supporter.

At least 700,000 people poured into the area around the Brandenburg Gate. Elsewhere in the country, there are similar scenes as this summer of soccer creates a carnival on the streets.
