France is reeling from its second fatal dog attack in less than two weeks.

A 17-month-old girl has died after being bitten by an American Staffordshire terrier in the outskirts of Paris. The tragedy struck when the family were visiting a relative. As they entered the appartment, the dog is said to have set upon the little girl biting her about the head. Her mother explains the horrific chain of events. “I could tell he was going to jump, but I did not have the time to save her. I quickly turned the pushchair to get her out of the way, but my daughter did not sit upright – she leant forward and the dog was able to get her. He wouldn’t let go.” France’s Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy has said he would support a total ban on owning dangerous dogs.
