Many people associate Frankfurt with grey buildings and finance professionals in grey suits, and that is precisely the image the city is trying to shake off as it prepares to host the football World Cup. The light and sound show Sky Arena illuminates the high-rise landscape with moving pictures of the history of the competition, famous sports stars and match scences. It uses giant projectors to bring the World Cup’s genesis to life on a total surface area of 10,000 square metres. The spectacular opened on Saturday night and will be repeated today and on Monday. It has added to the sense of excitement before the competition kicks off on June 9th, when host nation Germany plays its first match against Costa Rica.
