Iraq’s parliament has approved a new government of national unity proposed by Prime Minister-designate Nuri al-Maliki. The assembly voted on each minister by a show of hands after Maliki read out his proposed cabinet. The government is a broad coalition of majority Shi’ites, minority Sunni Arabs and Kurds. Some members of the largest Sunni political bloc in parliament staged a walkout, but top Sunni leaders remained.
