Historic jobs reform in Spain

There has been an historic agreement on labour reform in Spain.

In marked contrast to France where labour reform has caused mass protests, the Spanish government, trade unions and employers have taken a common position on how to cut unemployment by reducing the number of employees on temporary contracts. Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said it would boost the Spanish economy: “We are pushing for this because we believe more stable growth is built on more stable jobs and because we believe higher quality economic development is based on jobs of quality.” The package has broad support although the small business community says it does not address structural problems.
