Hamas denies it stored weapons in Jordan

The Palestinian government has denied accusations by Jordan that it stored weapons on its territory. An arms cache allegedly belonging to Hamas was shown on Jordanian TV. The row has prompted Amman to cancel a visit by the Palestinian foreign minister. Hamas which took over government last month is also accused by Jordan of engaging in anti-Israeli activities.

The Islamic militant group says the charges are completely false adding that it does not intervene in the internal affairs of other countries. Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud al-Zahar is touring Arab states trying to raise funds after the United States and Europe withdrew direct aid. They argue that Hamas must renounce violence and recognise Israel and past peace deals if it is to be helped financially.
