Israel weighs response to suicide bombing

world news

| |

As Israelis come to terms with another deadly Palestinian suicide bombing, their interim government has been discussing its response to the attack. The Islamic Jihad bomber chose the softest of targets – a busy sandwich bar in central Tel Aviv. He killed 10 people including himself. Yesterday’s blast came just hours ahead of the swearing-in of the new Israeli parliament. Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met cabinet colleagues and military advisors with an offensive against Islamic Jihad reportedly on the agenda.

Last night air strikes in Gaza gave an indication of what may be to come. A metal workshop of the kind Israel says is used by militants to make rockets was destroyed. On this occasion there were no casualties.
